Project Summary

The Mycelium and Recycled Carboard (MARC) project specialises in converting waste feedstocks into sustainable raw materials using innovative mycelium technology. By repurposing discarded materials, we contribute to the green circular bioeconomy and promote environmental sustainability through waste reduction.

Overall Objective:

• Reduce waste and environmental impact – Convert waste materials into sustainable raw materials using mycelium technology, while using low-energy manufacturing to reduce emissions and potentially sequester carbon.
• Create a local circular bioeconomy – Develop a regional circular value chain in the Midlands of Ireland, supporting local suppliers, creating green employment, and strengthening the local economy.

Project Impact:

Ethica Planet showcases how EUJTF funding is supporting innovation in the circular bioeconomy through the development of sustainable products made from mycelium and recycled cardboard. The project is not only creating environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional materials but is also generating local employment opportunities, with young people from the area being employed to support the company’s growth. This investment is helping to drive innovation, stimulate local job creation, and promote a more sustainable regional economy.
